PC Building Simulator leaves early access January 29th

PC Building Simulator is set to leave early access this month after nearly a year of tuning and longer still as a free alpha. The Irregular Corporation’s sim does exactly what it says on the tin – it lets people experience the thrills of cracking open a fresh PC case, stuffing it with expensive electro-guts and hoping it doesn’t catch fire. There’s a career mode where you work your way up the ranks to tuning high-end machines, a sandbox mode, and all the virtual LED lighting strips and liquid cooling…

Battlefleet Gothic: Armada 2 explains its three grand campaigns

Battlefleet Gothic: Armada 2 is almost here – due on January 24th – and the space-naval strategy sequel looks to be a tad bigger and more ambitious than its predecessor. In the very seriously narrated info-dump trailer below (it sounds like the man is speaking in ALL CAPS ALL THE TIME), it lays out what its new single-player side entails. While there are twelve playable factions, the story side of the game contains just three campaigns – Imperial, Necron & Tyranid – though each has their own distinct systems and…

The Overwatch League’s city-based ambitions finally make sense to me

The Overwatch League has been busy in its off-season, announcing eight new teams that will join the competition when it starts back up again in January. Like the 12 that came before them, each will bear the name of a city: Paris, Guangzhou, Vancouver, and so on. But, for now, they’ll continue to play entirely from Blizzard’s arena in Burbank, California, with no real connection to the places they’re named for. The League wants to change that by 2020, shifting to a travelling format that will see each team play…

Chinese Taipei disqualified from Hearthstone Global Games

Chinese Taipei was officially disqualified from Hearthstone’s Global Games yesterday, after it emerged that some of their members were ‘stream sniping’ – watching the broadcast of the event in order to gain an advantage over their opponents. In the wake of the announcement, fans are questioning how easy the practice may be to pull off, and whether more measures should be taken to prevent it. Per Blizzard’s official statement, the Chinese Taipei team uploaded a video which included evidence that they had “used the delayed tournament broadcast to aid them…

Meditations is a thought-of-the-day calendar for games

The holidays are over, and now we’ve got to remember how this ‘work’ stuff goes again – it’s stressful stuff. Meditations is like a mindfulness calendar but with games that may help soothe frazzled nerves. Organised by Rami Ismail of Vlambeer, each day the Meditations launcher serves up a short, personal game and a quote to accompany it – a little window into someone else’s mind, and what helps hold them together. It’s free, and you can snag it here, and enjoy a clever little digital distraction to start every…

One Step From Eden goes crowdfunding with a challenging demo

Build decks, sling cards, dodge hundreds of bullets – One Step From Eden feels like a clever, twitchy little hybrid of excellent card-battling roguelike Slay The Spire and Capcom’s Mega Man Battle Network series. Developer Thomas Moon Kang has taken his deck-building roguelike shooter-thing to Kickstarter, accompanied by a surprisingly difficult and replayable demo on Game Jolt here. Four quick runs through the demo and I feel like I’m starting to get the hang of it, although it demands a level of focus that I probably need more caffeine to…

Fallout 76’s last surviving human NPC lives only to suffer

Have pity on Wooby, the last non-vault-dwelling human in Fallout 76‘s West Virginia. Robbed of a voice, his only reason to exist – as hinted at by the long-standing trope of similar name – is to suffer, probably as a target for weapons testing. Wooby exists in a sealed off little void packed to the brim with weapons and items, some of which aren’t technically meant to be available yet in the beleaguered pseudo-MMO. Some players have managed to weasel their way into this forbidden land, but Bethesda would rather…

Resident Evil 2’s time-limited ‘1-shot’ demo is live

As far as bad first days at a new job go, you can’t really beat Leon Kennedy’s – go on, try the new Resident Evil 2 remake demo and tell me I’m wrong. Released somewhat later today than expected, the thirty-minute demo for the upcoming horror rework is live. It weighs in at a hefty 7.2gb download, and expands to slightly larger than that. Grab it here on Steam – you’ve got thirty minutes to play (after setting up your controls and settings), and the download disappears on January 31st. Below,…
